Simple printer that works fine for home, low usage. Can easily be made to connect USB only.
I ordered this because I have always had great luck with HP printers, and because the price was great. My husband just wanted a simple, inexpensive printer because he doesn't use one often. We also did not want to use the wireless feature; only wanted to connect by simple USB.It was a fairly easy setup by USB although they definitely discourage it and want users to go wireless! However, if you just be sure your pc is OFF, plug the printer in a USB port of your pc, turn the Printer ON, the Printer's WiFi button OFF, THEN power up your pc, you'll be good. Go to Add a Printer, wait a minute and it will find the HP, then proceed manually using the Windows driver for that HP. NOTE: It will prompt you for the "WPN Pin" but you can just cancel that and move on. It will print perfectly via the Windows driver without ANY memory-hogging-and-cluttering HP software.

Rarity these days - great quality + it works perfectely even after many many years of use
HP printers are the way to go.From affordability to quality. I've bought the same printer (but an older model in '19) & it still works like the day I 1st got it.Never any issues. My friend's B-Day was recently , she never had a printer so I bought her this newer model and she couldn't be happier & from experience I know this is a quality product that won't break down after a year or less and will work as intended. As I said , my 6 year old HP printer ( a much older model obviously ) is still kicking @ss , so yeah ,if you don't wanna dish out a lot of money but need a reliable ,quality printer ,you cannot go wrong with HP. Especially this model. And I'm speaking from experience , which carries more weight than some YouTube advert.

Horrible customer support
Summary:- tried, unsuccessfully, to set the printer up to print from my son’s iPhone and his laptop- printer set-up app will not allow connecting to the university wifi as it is a public network (according to the HP agent)- the set up app does not give an option to complete the set up with an Ethernet cable (cable NOT provided) even though the printer does have an Ethernet port - the manual specifically discourages the use of the Ethernet port as it will restrict the use of some features. Not to mention that obviously the use of an Ethernet cable only allows connecting to a computer and not a smart phone- HP recommends on their website to use the chat option for support as it is faster. Customer support via chat is terrible in response time and support provided- in the end, 40 min wasted on the chat - problem not resolved - stuck with a printer I cannot return as it is past the return deadline - ordered an Ethernet cable and praying it will at least let my son print from his laptopDetails:I purchased this printer earlier this summer for my son to take to his college dorm room. He moved in yesterday and proceeded to set it up to print from his iPhone and his laptop using wifi. He is on campus in the dorms so the wifi is the one provided by the university to the students. The printer would not let us set it up saying this wifi network was not supported by the printer/hp app, to try another network or contact HP support. The printer does have an Ethernet port (cable NOT provided) but the setup app only offered the option to set up by wifi, no option to set up using an Ethernet cable. The printer manual also specifically discourages the use of an Ethernet cable and warns it will not allow access to all the printer features. They even mention that they cover the Ethernet port on the printer with a sticker to deter people from using it. And obviously you cannot connect an Ethernet cable to a smart phone. The printer does NOT come with an Ethernet cable so we could not test it. I contacted HP support via their website chat using the link provided in the error message. I had to wait 20 min before being connected to an agent. But the frustrating part was the delay in response from the agent between each single question/answer. The agent asked 2 basic questions in 2 posts - first post was to provide info to identify myself and the printer - second post was to confirm my problem statement. I answered each question immediately and had to wait at least 5 min after each answer to get his feedback. I know it was at least that long as each post on the chat is marked with the time it was sent. After 15 min of wait (in addition to the initial 20 min to be connected to an agent), he answered that the university wifi was a public network and therefore would not work. He advised to try using the hotspot from my son’s iPhone. I answered that my son’s phone carrier/plan does not allow for hotspot so that couldn’t work. I once again waited and waited for an answer and gave up. I cannot return the printer as it is past the return deadline. I ordered an Ethernet cable and hope that will work with the laptop even though the setup does not offer that option and the manual specifically says that connecting via Ethernet is not as good as it does not allow access to all the features. As for printing from the iPhone I guess that is not possible. Could not be more disappointed by the terrible customer support and lack of information in the manual!

Supposed to work only on 2.4 GHz wifi, but it works on my 5 GHz
I just now re-read the part in the product description about only working on 2.4 Hz systems. It is really buried deep and easy to miss. And so, when I tried to set it up with my wifi, it would not connect. I tried at least 5 times. So I tried calling HP printer support, but I never could get through. They kept asking for a model number, but the robot had some previous HP models associated with my phone number, and I just gave up after about 5 tries. I had just bought a new printer cable for my old 2600 series Deskjet printer (for a new setup and a new location) and also bought a new ink cartridge. The cable worked, but the new ink cartridge did not. I had bought both this new 2800 series printer and the ink cartridge for the old one at the same time so as to have two printers in case I had problems with one. Sure enough, I had problems with the old one not accepting the new ink cartridge. Anyway, I had already thought about just plugging the new printer in, but I wanted to call HP to see if the wifi would work. When that didn't work, I decided to go ahead and plug it in. There was a red piece of tape covering the plug hole with the cross red line indicating don't use this. I plugged the cable into the hole anyway and tried connecting. I used the HP Smart app both times (I have used this before many times. It's great for scanning and any HP printer stuff.) I had to download it and install it on this other computer, but it's very simple to do. So, anyway, in HP Smart I pressed the button for "New Printer" (top left), and it started trying to connect to the wifi. Bam! It worked right away this time. It said that it connected to wifi, even though I had the printer cable plugged in. So, who knows what's going on here. Maybe somebody else knows the answer. I haven't followed it up much anymore since it printed out a couple of test pages. I haven't unplugged the cable yet to see if it is running on wifi or cable. But, I do know that it will work with a $7 printer cable.
