Gritty and inspiring account of some tough sailing

Lloyd groomed himself well sailing around the coast of Australia and all those years in and around Malaysia. He obviously loved the sailing and social times in that area. Setting off from there for the Mediterranean with new crew and through some of the toughest cruising routes in the world takes some guts. His descriptions of the good times and bad are realistic and give an excellent insight into the range of incidents and emotions cruising sailors encounter whilst on passage. Being a mechanic also gave him a good head start in being able to recognise and resolve the many technical problems that arise on such a voyage. With 36,000 sea miles under his belt, he can now call himself a seasoned sailor.I enjoyed this book immensely and recommend it to all prospective sailors contemplating an ocean voyage.

Well done Lloyd and Deja Vu 2

I'd already read most of Lloyd's web page...as I'm very interested in a Seawind 1000. So there wasn't much new here. But as a compilation it's a good read. More clumsy travelogue than serious sailing journal but hats off to Lloyd and crew. It is a gutsy effort sailing a smallish and pretty open cat where he has. It is a major endorsement of the boat and what a competent skipper can achieve. I enjoyed it!

A terrific insightful book for anyone contemplating sailing Malaysia to the Mediterranean.

Having met the author on a sailing rally it was like he was sitting in front of me having a yarn. True Lloyd vocabulary will inspire any sailing fan to read this book and enjoy it with a few laughs along the way and it was a very long way to sail.Well done Lloyd for all of us who turned back towards Australia I now feel a bit more like I have travelled with you to the Med.A great read for any traveller whether they like sailing or not it is such an adventure and every day is different.Easy reading and fantastic photos to quench our imaginations.

A good sailing story

It is a good book if you are interested in sailing (as we are), but it could stand some polishing up. In addition, it have a couple of glaring technical errors (e.g. The definition of a "knot" is nautical mile per hour. So saying "knots per hour" displays a surprising lack of knowledge of his subject. Never-the-less, a good yarn.

Nice Read

Easy to read. Would be better with more maps and photos. Certainly made my mind up about sailing through the Red Sea - Pass!!Very challenging adventure. I think I would rather just purchase a yacht already in the med!

Small Cat lovers will enjoy

Though the prose is somewhat dry and is certainly not particularly literary, the "ship's log"-type chronicles of a small Seawind 1000 model catamaran will still be entertaining and informative to anyone who dreams of getting a boat out there and having adventures. I recommend it for those in the market for a small multi-hulled sailboat.

Real sailing experiences

Good to find a book that describes the sailing, rather than just the ports of call. Enjoyed the description of the trip.
