It works for MQTT but you have to unlock it which is fortunately easy.
It came with a T-Mobile Sim card and actually connected to their network. I got it so my ESP32 iot projects could connect to the internet. The T-Mobile card sends you to a captive portal where you are supposed to click to login. It's not functional that I can tell, but worse, the ESP32 hangs up! When you login to the hotspot management page (192.168.0.1) it is kind enough to allow you to unlock it for access to any carrier! Very kind. There are online guides to help. It's actually pretty easy. I used an online Linux terminal since I only have Windows. It generated the unlock code to my surprise. I installed a prepaid eiotclub card I also bought here on Amazon. Voila it worked.

Doesn’t work without a SIM card

Works well, but needs a new sim.
I recently purchased this used T-Mobile hotspot and overall, I'm very happy with it. However, when I received the device, the SIM card was expired, which was a bit of a disappointment. I had to go to a T-Mobile store to have the SIM card replaced, which was a minor inconvenience.Once I got the new SIM card, the hotspot worked flawlessly. It has a strong signal and provides fast internet speeds. I've used it for streaming videos, gaming, and downloading large files, and it has handled everything without any issues. The hotspot is also very easy to use. It has a simple interface that makes it easy to connect to the internet and manage your settings. I also appreciate that the hotspot is small and lightweight, making it easy to carry around with me.Overall, I'm very happy with my T-Mobile hotspot. It's a reliable and convenient way to stay connected to the internet on the go. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a mobile hotspot.Pros:Strong signalFast internet speedsEasy to useSmall and lightweightCons:SIM card was expired when I received the device

Not the Best for Unattended Use
I got this to set up some Wi-Fi cameras at a property that is vacant due to a death in the family to keep an eye on it. Unfortunately, some poor software design choices make unattended use problematic.1. If it is run without the battery and there is a power outage, when power is restored the device will remain in a powered off state requiring manual push of the power button to turn it back on.2. If it is run with the battery installed, the device will eventually get upset about this and display a message to disconnect from power to avoid over-charging the battery. If you don't do that, it will shut off, again requiring manual intervention. To work-around this, I set up a smart outlet that removes power periodically throughout the day so that the battery is sometimes charging. That's a cumbersome work-around that shouldn't be necessary. A better solution would be to run without the battery and connect through a UPS -- also a complex setup that shouldn't be necessary.

So far so good. My 2nd device wasn't damaged as the first one was. But seller send replacement quick.

DEVICE COMES LOCKED TO TMOBILE! TMOBILE WILL NOT UNLOCK
This review will help you if you purchased a non-T-Mobile SIM card like me. (I purchased an EIOT on Amazon)1. From your phone, connect to Franklin hotspot WiFi (the password will be on the LCD screen, press the power button to display it)2. Log into mobile.hotspot via browser with password "admin"3. Go to SIM --> Settings --> Notice it says Carrier Unlock Status: Locked4. Call T-Mobile. They will say they can't unlock it without the owner's permission. Except, I'm the owner . . . Really? . . .5. Google: github steftodor franklin unlock6. Use the tool to generate an unlock code.7. Dance and enjoy! Hope that helps.

Waste of money.
Doesn't stay charged but also can't leave it plugged up because it will show a message about unplugging it and stops sending out a wifi signal. Have tried numerous charge cords and blocks with no success. Unfortunately, I am 7 days outside of the return window, so just have to toss it in the trash. Waste of money.

Simple yet effective - Great for long trips
We recently purchased an older mini van and wanted a way to for the kids to be able to watch movies on long road trips. Instead of paying a lot for a brand new hotspot from a major wireless carrier, we chose this. Coupled with a $10/mo data plan from the magenta company, this portable hotspot has been great!Devices connect, videos play, passengers are happy. The device was pretty easy to setup and configure. Highly recommend using a laptop to do so.Holds a charge for days.Doesn't make any sounds at all nor does it overheat. If you're not-so-sure about this particular hotspot, let this review sway you into buying. It's worked well for us!
