Q: This question is for the seller, unless someone else knows the answer. "Mineral Oil" is a generic term. What specifically is this oil made from?

This type of mineral oil is a transparent, colorless oil, composed mainly of alkanes and cycloalkanes, related to petroleum jelly. It has a density of around 0.8–0.87 g/cm3 (0.029–0.031 lb/cu in).

I don't believe so but it would depend upon the type of wood it is. This product is specifically meant for cutting boards and does leave a slight surface residue. Old wood is traditionally treated with tung oil which doesn't leave any residue. You can buy it at any local paint store. I manage renovations of older, historic buildings and we always use tung oil on old wood.

Q: Can this be used on eggs?

I’ve used it to coat the egg shells so they last past the expiration date. Give them a wipe, let them dry, & you’re good to go. Works amazingly well where my eggs are still fresh months after the date (but do the water float test (float = bad) before use to be safe in case you missed a spot & because it can be hard to know the actual new expiration date). But know this trick works best on white eggs not brown. It will work on brown eggs but not as long. Since the oil is on the shell & not in the edible egg itself I have had no issues with diarrhea or other possible side effects if this were to get in the food.
