Brightech - SPIDER - Car Jump Starter and Battery Charger for Mobile Devices with Carrying Case - Boost of 400 Amps - Integrated LED Light & USB Charging Port

I bought this item because I have a Honda Fit and since the battery is so small it has been know to lose the charge when not being driven often. I haven't used the Spider for charging the car battery since I purchased but I wanted it as back-up if I could not start my car. However in order to try it out, I have charged my phone, my Kindle and my notebook computer. It charges these devices quickly and it is easy to see how much charge the Spider still has in order to know when to charge up the Spider. I got the Spider version specifically as it has a wall charger; I don't leave the Spider in my car so the wall charger was more practical for me. It comes in a good, well organized, soft case and is very light and easy to take around.

wow! first, who would have thought that such a small device could jump start a car with a dead battery? twice!I had to use this tonight, so I'm motivated to review it. It was in my trunk for a couple months since last charge and it was at four of five bars charge. Instructions were clear and I connected the spider to the car battery terminals. It started right away (with boost), but then when idling the car died, so I had to jump the car again (with boost). Boost is a button you press to augment the usual charge, if the battery is fully dead or broken. It was so much easier than lining up a second car (the dead car was inside a restricted parking structure) and wrestling with heavy dirty jumper cables. It was so much quicker than waiting for AAA (which if the car stalled like it did, might have had to wait twice). Anyway, I was able to get the car to an auto supply store where I could change the battery. Thanks to the Spider.I also used this device previously, during a power outage the built-in flashlight and phone charger were very useful.More details--this unit is small, and comes in a nylon zippered bag with elastic straps to hold it, the jumper cables (which detach), an AC adapter, and a car 12v adapter. There is also a net inside the bag for storage of the instructions and the USB phone cord (with plugs for android, old iPhone and current iPhone).In short, this is a nice kit that stows easily in the car (glove box or trunk), and it was worth every penny when I had to use it. Will buy more so that there is one in each of my cars, my kids cars, etc.

The Spider works great. That's not why I gave it 3 stars. My problem is that I had a question about its use, and the instructions are inadequate and printed so small as to be unreadable. So, why not ask Brightech?Well, Brightech offers no customer service number. So I filled out the form at the website, where it says they will try to get back to you within 24 hours. They didn't. 48 hours? Nothing. 72 Hours? Not a word. I sent another email. Nothing.It's a good product, but their customer service is nonexistent. Even a good product needs decent support. I still haven't heard a word from Brightech. It's a shame.

I originally gave a one star because of early failure, but upgraded to 3 star because of seller's responsiveness. In less than two months I started having problems. Button stopped working and would only charge to 4 out of 5 LEDs. As a special note I do use quite a bit as a charger for my iPhone and IPad and recharge at around 2 x a week. I suspect many people would do the same though. Perhaps I simply had a rare defect. On a positive note, Brightech responded quickly with a refund as soon as I emailed them.

I just ordered a second "Spider" to keep in my wife's car, after getting one for my car. I got the "Scorpion" for my son for a Xmas present, after reading excellent reviews (although the majority of the reviewers received free units in return for their review). The Spider seemed to have excellent reviews also, and was substantially cheaper, as well as smaller. What's behind my getting these is the fear that one day I will be the last car in the parking lot and the car won't start because the battery is low for whatever reason. For the past few years I have been lugging around heavy and cumbersome lead acid booster batteries, which are "iffy" at best, and good for only one boost before needing recharging. I have a pretty good familiarity with electronics, but it is beyond me how these little batteries can start a car, not to mention doing it multiple times before needing a recharge. But several of the reviewers claim to have done just that, and Brightec stands behind their product with a three-year guarantee, so I'm willing to give it a try. Although I haven't had to put it to the test of starting a car, I'm giving it a five star review based on the packaging and the design. If and when the day comes that I need to start a car, I hope my confidence will be justified. Meantime, it takes very little space, and is available in case a phone or iPad needs charging.

When I began to look for an emergency battery to carry in our car I had no idea that there were so many to choose from! I whittled down the list for various reasons and I ended up with this one. Other than the good reviews, the thing that put it over the top was the 3 year warranty. I appreciate that the company has enough faith in their products to offer something better than the standard 1 year warranty. The battery is extremely well built and the case along with the accessories are also well constructed. I've already had to use it a couple times to start my wife's car and it worked as expected and I couldn't be happier. I've got 2 more to buy as I want all our cars to have one of these. There is something very reassuring about having a backup battery in the car so if my car's battery does have a problem I don't have to hunt for somebody to give me a jump start or have to wait for a tow truck. I'm a happy camper!
